i am now looking for any pics of the globe inn.. 61 hospital st...or indeed any pics of the street would be great...

thanks for that alf..so now we can say that the globe was still standing in 1940...must be a pic of it somewhere i would think...

kieron..thank you...i thought as dad could not remember it it must have gone well before the 60s slum clearance...he would only have been 11 in 1940....this explains a lot....of course that does not meen to say that there wont be a pic of it floating around somewhere...

kieron..talking about bomb blasts the rose and crown on the corner of hospital st/brearley st took a blast also...caused a big crater in the middle of the street...they rebuilt the damaged part of the pub and reopened...ive got a good pic of that one.....

alf..that link you gave me that says a samuel taylor died in 1940 in the globe pub...well it was due to a bomb blast..thanks to kieron for that info....

That one closed in 1963, the last licensee being Peter Jeffries.
