The Eagle & Tun

Heartland

master brummie
The Eagle & Tun Public House was a late 19th Century Public House built to replace an earlier structure.
When it was demolished as part of the HS 2 works, the question was raised with those undertaking the Archeology of the HS 2 route to be seen what remained of the original foundations, but they seemed to have other schemes in hand.

The pub that remained had a use as a music venue, and was also used by some of the staff that worked at the nearby British Rail Parcels Depot.

The 50 in map ordnance survey 1888 shows the Eagle & Tun as it evidently was facing Banbury Street

I worked at a place called Multibrasive back of the Irish centre, always in there after early finish on Fridays, then bus back to King's heath, shower, change back to meet mate's at the Tun.
I loved the atmosphere of the place, never felt it in any other pub. Skins, rastas, punks, old fellas, it truly was an open arms.

hi stuart many years ago the HS2 bosses told me that the eagle and tun would be retained and not demolished but as with many other promises they made they did not keep it...very sad to lose another icon of a brummie pub

The landlord, think his name was Des, would shut the pub, give us the wink and open the side door for us. Only four of us in the building playing pool.
'Im going up lads, bottles only, don't touch the top shelf, leave the money on the bar and leave quietly'..
Never broke that trust.
