I know it is one of Brum's older pubs but I've always known it as the Bull's Head. Looks as if he has lost his head somewhere along the way!

The Bull, Price Street on the corner of Loveday Street. in the 'Gun Quarter' A wonderful, friendly establishment in what must be one of the oldest parts of our wonderful City. It has been run by Rose Mc. Cann for many years, has a wonderful collection of jugs, some very old photographs and prints and a collection of maps of old Birmingham. It is in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and has been for several years, does wonderful 'home cooked' food, sells a decent pint of Adnams Broadside, Marstons Pedigree plus a decent guest Ale and also has Ansells mild on tap [OK, it's keg but it tastes wonderful.] as well as the usual lagers and cider.
A good mix of people get in there and very often a good discussion can be had with the regulars.
Last Monday evening it was visited by a group of Europeans on a 'cultural exchange', a German gentleman drinking pints from the 'York brewery' and a Spanish girl eating a bag of pork scratchings!
Apart from that I don't know it too well!!:D

Just in case you want to travel to visit it is sadly not open on Sundays, very little trade, but a good place for a relatively quiet day/night on Saturdays, open all day during the week and open 'til late most evenings.
Also does reasonable accomodation, booking required weekdays, quieter at week-ends. Although not open on Sundays, accomodation still available on Saturday nights[no breakfast].
Bill.

We stayed there for a night last year after a do at the Barn - an easy journey on the 7 bus, just a seven minute walk along Loveday Street. It's a lovely pub and Rose is a wonderful hostess. Here are some pics I took.

I used the bull some years ago and always found it a nice place to visit we used to go to the Gunmakers just up the road from the Bull

Does anybody go to the Gunmakers?is it still open:)Mossy

They have a website.

Very close to the Bull (just out of shot in the left hand picture above) was the wonderful Record Centre, a jazz, swing and vocals shop run with much dedication by Ray Purslow. Closed last year and is much missed.

Gunmakers is still open as far as I know.

Nice photo Bob S.
Mossy, the gunmakers is still open but only a shadow of its former self, a bit run down, no real ale ["no demand for it" says the current landlord, Sam!] I had my 50th Birthaday there and had a cracking night. Keith and Pauline were there then, sadly I heard thet Keith died a few years ago, I guess a few people on here will remember him as I understand he owned an ex BCT bus.
I didn't even consider the Gunmakers for my 60th, this year, and had it at The Bull, another good night was had by all.
Whilst we are in the area the ex landlord of the Turks Head, still open[just] also now drinks in The Bull.

I lived locally in '89,and this was a pub I used to use.Remember Villa player Alun Evans dropping in during his testimonial.
It was not very popular then,an ansells tenancy, but like a number of other pubs in the area does seem to have reinvented itself sucessfully.
