The Brown Lion

I read in the Birmingham Mail that the Brown Lion run by the Two Towers brewery has closed down.
The owners of the brewery have parted company and surrendered the lease back to owners a large brewery - name escapes me at the moment. The Forum had a meet there when it opened didn't they? The Two Towers are to concentrate on brewing as they have an expanding list of customers.

I just checked on Beer In The Evening, and someone posted that he went there on 14th September and it was closed. Bit sudden, wasn't it? I used that pub for years back in the late 1960's and 1970's. When my wife went she said the place was packed. The licensed trade is becoming something of a joke these days.

Dads too Wendy!!
Apparently from the article in the Mail, there was no notice of it closing given, customers turned up to find the doors locked and a sign on them. The Enterprise group who own the pub are hoping to re-open it in the future.
It was the only tap-house in Birmingham according to the article, so another tradition gone :(

I remember the Brown Lion when it was run by Barry and Diane Pugh. A proper old-fashioned Jewellery Quarter boozer. It did need a refurb, though, as it became very run down and, to my mates' distress, stopped serving draught cider! My wife went a couple of weeks ago to see The Sunny Day Band, and she said how nice the place was compared with years ago. I really hope that The Enterprise Group re-open it, otherwise it's another good old Brummie pub gone.
