Not sure if anyone else has posted this but I came past the pub yesterday and it's all boarded up. Don't expect they're refurbishing it so has it closed for good? Dad would be crying in his beer - first the Reservoir, Erdington Arms (Armada, now site for car rentals) then the Stockland (Chinese buffet but now 'family' pub), the King Edward and now the Brookvale. I think that's all the pubs around there gone. Not to mention the Hare & Hounds on Marsh Lane. Can't even think of any 'proper' outdoors.

If there's a thread for lost pubs or you think this would be better elsewhere - please move.
 
My BT colleague, Jim Angus's wife ran an off licence (outdoor) round there, corner of Hilaries Road/Slade Road in the 70's/80,s, probably long since gone

Many years ago there used to be an outdoor at the junction of Rosary Road and St Thomas Road at the end of Brookvale Road. It was kept by an elderly lady who used to come from the back when the shop bell rang. I often thought how vulnerable she was, but of course in the end she had to give up.

I remember the off licence - Anne Angus was the name above the door - I used to spend my pocket money there on Friday nights buying Mason's Dandelion and Burdock and sweets. The off licence is now more of a convenience shop, but still listed as "K Wines" - still selling alcohol.
I think Ann had blonde hair and glasses, and Jim had some (!!) dark hair...
 
There used to be an outdoor on the corner of Queens Road and Francis Road, off Slade Road. Am I right in thinking that they kept pub hours?
Lady P, recognise all the names in your post except the King Edward. Where was that?

da223, Anne Angus kept the off licence c/o Slade Road and Hillaries Road, I lived nearly opposite in Hillside Road (1962 to 1987), her husband Jim Angus worked with me at P.O. Telephones (now BT). I went down there every night for a Guiness for my Wife and I. I remember they had a lad, forgot his name. Eric
 
Sorry Bob, my post was a bit misleading as the King Edward was on Lichfield Road, just past Spaghetti, where the road forks on the way to town. It's just that these are the pubs I'd noticed recently on my way to and from work. I think the King Edward was mentioned on another thread. It was a lovely turn-of-the-century pub with all the original fittings and cobbles at the front. Gone to make way for road widening and a factory estate.
