At the end of last year, I optimistically joined this forum to try to find out what a pair of rather odd cast iron stands might originally have been used for.

They were marked W&T Avery, but beyond that I had very little to go on. Within a short time several members here recognised them as the centre posts from a very specific model Avery balance scale, which was something I would have struggle to work out on my own - after all, I had already tried alone.

I thought some people might enjoy seeing what eventually became of one of them. After restoring the stand, my talented husband used it as the base for a light, paired with a vintage theatre spotlight. It was a nice way to give the piece a new life while keeping the character of the original engineering.
