The Isokon Gallery in London announced last week that it had acquired a waste paper basket made by Taylor Law for the Isokon Aluminium Company.It was designed by the architect Walter Gropius in 1935 and the company made the prototype in 1936 for the home of Jack Pritchard who was responsible for the development of Lawn Road flats in London.

Taylor,Law co Ltd. was a classic Birmingham manufacturing company. They made all sorts of metal objects including kitchen utensils, metal boxes kitchen cabinets etc and were early provider of home safes including for the Birmingahm Municipal Bank and National Provincial among others. They were still making safes for the Post Office into the 1960s. In WW2 they also made tin gas mask cases.
A couple of adverts. I remember Tala products very well. We definitely had one of their whisks and an aluminium bread bin. Presumably the name 'Tala' came from the combined Taylor Law names. Seems they once had premises - Park Works - in Aston, then later in Stourbridge.

The Aston address seems to be Adams Street in the 1950s. In the 1930s, the Aston premises (I assume formerly 'Park Works') seems to have become 'Tala Works'. By the 1960s, the Stourbridge premises also used the 'Tala Works' name.
