I'm hoping someone may be able to help me in my quest to find my grandfather's birth. He was Henry Taylor born 1881/2 to Emma and Thomas Taylor.Thomas Taylor died and Emma remarried a Charles Harvey.Henry was one of 5 sons.Alfred,Frederick,Thomas , Albert and my grandad.I'm having a real problem finding Henry's birth,I know when he died 1935,I cannot remember whether his birthdate was on his grave with Gran's.He was three years younger than gran and that's where the problem comes ,there are lots of Henry and Harry Taylor's in the records .Suggestions anyone please. That's before another trip up to Brum.

Re: Henry Taylor

Hi Sleepybarb

On all censuses that I can find it states he was born in 1882 (interestingly I can’t see him living with his family in 1891), but as you say there are several Henry/Harrys born around this time. So it might be quicker, in this instance, to order his death certificate as dob should be on it then you can go from there.

Thanks Bewdley,i wonder if he was ill and in hospital on census night.I imagine it would be Dudley road.Let's hope I order the right death cert.this time.

The date of birth was not on death certificates until much later than 1935, it will only be his age, and that is according to who registered the death. Sometimes errors occur.

There is a death in Dec 1935 for Henry Taylor aged 54 Birmingham 6d 294, but as Shortie correctly says this won’t give you his dob, I had forgotten that dob wasn’t included until 1969.

If you apply for a birth certificate additional information, such as a father's name or mother's maiden name (if known), can be used when ordering to ensure it relates to the correct person.

Barb would you know Harry's grandparents' names or where they were living as I have a Thomas Taylor in my tree but I do not have his wife or children. Carol
