I LEFT school in 1946 and started work at Taylor Brothers in Cooksey Road, Small Heath, as a clerk in the works office.

They manufactured brass gas fittings. The firm at that time was run by three brothers and one grandson of the seven original owners who, back in the 19th century when the firm was founded, were know locally as the Seven Sods.

Hi I lived in cooksey road three doors away from the factory and played by the gates annoying the goods inward man and swinging on the bar across the entrance.
