Thankyou so much for all that info,we thought my nan had 1 sister and 1 brother,i do know that sydney died during the war and is buried in Italy.

Hi Steward,
Do you have Sidney J Blake,s service record or Number ?,,he was Birth Registered 1924 so age 18 in 1942.
Cannot seem to find him on the CWGC (Commonwealth War Graves Commission) website.
Are you sure it was Sydney J that died in the war & not one of his brothers ?...John

I notice on the CWGC site, that there's a Rifleman Sydney John BLAKE 14561775 Age 19, London Irish, buried at Coriano Ridge War Cemetery. Parents, Wm & Mary Blake of Nechells.

Thanks Baz, thats surely the chap to help Newbie Steward to build a bit more of his Family History,

Good spotting Baz,, i need to skip my morning Guiness )hic) or get some new glasses,,,Cheers m8 :culpability:

Not at all ! I've searched for hundreds of people on the CWGC and it's notoriously difficult some times. In the case of J Blake I started with upper case on the name search and entered very little else.

hi is there any way i can find out if Bert Taylor is still alive i have been told he moved to wales years ago, would love some help finding him as he would have so much info that could help me

Hi Steward,,presuming its your Bert H Taylor born 1914 that your looking for then he would be 99 not out this year,,,

So ,,,I have had a look on FreeBMD for a possible death (hope not & hope he's still this side of the grass)
but FreeBMD seems to stop at 1966 and as never gone past 1983 anyway,,, found no death so far,

So,,,, could somebody do a search for Bert H as above died in Wales ? help Steward,, cheers John

I can’t find a death in Wales, but have found this one which is a possibility.
