We also forget how communications were limited to land lines at that time, no mobile phones. I remember trying to phone my mum on the night from London and the telephone lines into Birmingham seemed to be jammed. All adding to the fear.

I'd gone to New street station that night to meet my girlfriend off a train. I must have got there about the time the bombs went off but didn't hear anything. When we tried to leave the station the police stopped us and escorted us down the ramp at New street. They made us go quick because they said they'd found another bomb there but that must have been a false alarm. I can't remember how we got home, there were no busses and apparently the Irish taxi drivers had, not surprisingly, gone home. I think we walked. Our parents were very relieved to see us.
I remember going to school on the 64 bus from Erdington to Aston next morning. The bus was full as usual but it was absolutely silent all the way. No one spoke.
Several school friends were in the Tavern. It was well known that they didn't bother too much about your age there. The bombers must have realised that.

My Sister had a good friend called Linda Cox.She frequented the tavern .had her own stool by the bar ,The night of the bomb she moved away to speak to someone when the bomb exploded .Had she been sat at the bar in her usual place she would have been killed. She escaped with shrapnel wounds...but the shock was severe .however she got over it and moved to spain .If youre out there lyn .HI........xx Many were killed and badly injured and as previously stated noone has been made to pay for these hyenous crimes against innocent people ......Brummies certainly pulled together that night .!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi
Linda is My Mum‘s cousin? . Still to this day, she does have pieces of Shrapnell embedded in her body . She didn’t move to Spain, though
