I think this would have been destroyed by the "big peg". the attached picture from the Nkicklin collection would show it in the distance about the position of the lampost on the left. The tallest building is 118, which makes the one just behind it with the windows on the roof 120.

cheers mike..yes you are right i think....i had forgotton that some buildings would have made way for the big peg...the position looks about right to me....

thanks again...

Hi, W.H. Tandy was my great grandfather. H.G. Tandy (next generation) my grandfather. I remember him well.
How can I help and what is your interest?

Oops I thought I'd replied. I'm new at using this. Tandy and Sons Vyse St. My family so feel free to ask me.
My mother was Kathleen Tandy, her father George Tandy (master jeweller) his father W.H. Tandy founder of the firm.

Anncie, still around?

Would your W.H. Tandy be William Harry Tandy 1843-1908? If so, I have an interest in his brother, James Tandy 1830-1885, as shown on a Public tree.

My specific interest is in Louisa Amelia Tandy and proving the link to James. There were a few Louisa Tandy's registered about 1868 but in neither the 1871 or 1881 record for this Tandy family is there any reference indicating "Louisa Amelia" or "Louisa A", just "Louisa". Before I resort to sending off for Certificates, I was hoping that you may already have a documentary link? The Louisa Kezia from the period can be discounted as her parentage comes up on Family Search.

The connection has come about due to another thread on this forum,
https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=39826
where Louisa Amelia appears on post #5.

Did I reply??? If not, I have a Louisa Tandy dau of James who is brother of my William Harry.
I have Louisa as b. 1869 but not details so we cannot really confirm. LOuisa appears to be the oldest of a large brood. Her mother was Eliza Pursall.
Did you confirm anything else? Ann

Hi. Thanks for replying. I've done quite a bit on the line of Louisa Amelia in the interim.

On the subject of William Harry and James being brothers. Mmm. Not too sure about the connection here. Something doesn’t add up.

My starting point is Louisa Amelia TANDY (1875- ).
In 1901 she is a Niece to John and Amelia HINES at 84 Anglesey Street, Birmingham.

RG13, Piece 2886, Folio 67, Page 5.

John HINES marries Amelia PURSALL 1883. King’s Norton, 6c,728.
James TANDY marries Eliza PURSALL 1867. Aston, 6d,242.

In 1871 we have Rifle Crescent, Birmingham.
James TANDY (1830- ) Jeweller
Eliza TANDY (1847- )
Louisa TANDY (1869 - ) A large discrepancy in the Birth year but in 1911 she is back to being born 1870.

1871 = RG10, Piece 3157, Folio 120, Page 46.

So, in an effort to establish that James TANDY is brother to William Harry TANDY, going back to the start,

1841 in Willis Street, Birmingham.
James TANDY (35) Japanner
Mary TANDY (35)
JAMES TANDY (11)
Harriet TANDY (8)
Charles TANDY (5)
Walter TANDY (4 months)

HO107, Piece 1149, Book 11, Folio 51, Page 23.

1851 at 45 Ashted Row
James TANDY (47) Japanner
Mary TANDY (48)
Mary Ann (22) Dress Maker (Where was she in 1841?)
JAMES TANDY (20) Gold Smith
Charles TANDY (16) ? Filer
Walter TANDY (10)
HENRY TANDY (7)

HO107, Piece 2061, Folio 511, Page 13.

Mary, wife of James Sr. dies 1853.
James Sr. remarries 1861.

Therefore, assuming Henry TANDY (Aston 1842, 16,184) hasn’t ‘morphed’ into William Henry (Harry) TANDY (Aston 1843, 16,189) I am inclined to suspect that there is an error in the Public Tree and that that William Harry TANDY is not the brother of James TANDY (1830-1885)

I’m sure that there is a connection. Just that I haven’t found it yet.

I have yet to discount the 1861 entry for 4 Tennant Street.
RG9, Piece 2137, Folio 123, Page 3.

George TANDY (66) Gardener
Mary Tandy (53)
Francis Tandy (56)
George Tandy (24)
John Tandy (21) Gilt Jeweller
Joseph Tandy (18)
William TANDY (14) A difference in Birth year but not by much

Which puts the name ‘George’ into the family whereas it does not feature in the James/Mary line.

My mother was Kathleen Tandy, her father George Tandy (master jeweller) his father W.H. Tandy founder of the firm.
Anncie

Would I be correct in assuming that your ‘George’ was Harry George Tandy who, 1922 – 1939 lived at 12 Forrest Road, Moseley, and had premises in Vyse Street?

Yes, George Tandy of 12 Forest Rd, and Vyse St. was y grandfather. I remember him quite well. I have a photo of 12 Forest Rd, Moseley as I lived there at the end of the war, with my mother 'Bompa' as we called him died soon after of colon cancer, and my grannie, Nana Tandy.
Could we correspond on email? Am I allowed to put my email on here? If so, please do get in touch that way.
Anncie
