Hi Colin Thanks for your reply Have got same 1841 through Ancestry but problem is trail goes dry with Henry Swash born 1813 whose son who is also Henry born 1849 Problem is with Henry Senior , no info about parents family etc .Have found one trail in Bristol St Pauls but the age difference between father 1813 and son 1838 is about 10 years wrong any ideas regards John

Hi John,I believe that ages in the 1841 census were rounded down by up to 5 years.I'm sure someone can explain this,it may then make sense.
It's not a very common name and was quite surprised to see how many there were

Thanks to Di and colin for that info I need to assess 1841 in light of that info as Colin said there is a lot of Swash's for such an unusual name regards John

Hi John, Henry Swash (b1849) is my great great grand father. His daughter Ada (b 1884) is my great grand mother. I believe they came from Bristol to Birmingham around 1883, tradition has it that Henry a Baker ran a betting book in Bristol and was unable to pay on a number of bets and fled to Birmingham to escape retribution. I have also traced Henry senior to Bristol, born abt 1813, 1881 Census shows a Henry Swash aged 83 born Bristol in the City Workhouse which could be him. I have info on extended Swash family from Henry (1849) including photo if you are interested.

Regards
