The well is Keepers Well as it was thirteen years ago I dont think you
would like me to put a pic on how it looks today. max

HISTORYMAKER, That well was rebuilt and cleaned up only a few years ago its still not to bad, used as a litter bin in the summer when the kid are on holidays.
This is just my thought: I think KEEPERS POOL now that the baths have gone looks a right mess they say its been landscaped, the bomb site over the road from the house I used to live in aston looked more landscaped.
Will we ever get the open air swimming back in the Park, talk of Powells Pool being the new site, with the pub next door you can just bet what it would be like at the midsummer hols.
I must be getting old why o why could it not have been at keeper again. This world seems to want change just for change sake.
Well that out of my system,I DO FEEL BETTER;)
A LOVER OF THE PARK

Historymaker, Yes now you have pointed out where the well was it has jogged my brain cells. I suoppose its covered in rubbish and grafiti now!

Aston I totally agree. I thought Keeper's had lost its beauty and identity. I used to spend most of my summer holidays between Blackroot and Keeper's I loved to swim out to the raft it was so lovely and carefree! or am I just being nostalgic. I do think sometimes I am glad I was born when I was!:)

YOU & ME BOTH MOMAP,My pal and I used to spend most sunday mornings swimming in Keeper when as yousay you could swim to the raft and dive into the lake from the boards at the lido side,The guy who used to row the punt around the lake when anyone swam there was I was later to find out the brother of my future brothering law small world .
they were as you say happy days

Long Live Sutton Coldfield ----- and our Royal Park

Thanks for posting the pics of the Keeper's Well. I doubt that hardly anyone knows what the Well is these days. I expect many people think it is a fire pit. Sutton Coldfield could do with some new and attractive signage especially for Sutton Park. The Nature Centre is very nice but I don't think they have added much to it in recent years.
I have such wonderful memories of Sutton Park as do many who post on this site. I think the one thing I don't mind is the fact that all and sundry can't go whizzing down it's roads anymore. I loved having lunch at the Old Mill
and sitting outside on a sunny afternoon.

THIS IS THE AWARD WINNING LANDSCAPING OF KEEPERS POOL(from the late outdoor swimming Baths site) as it looks today.
I think you can see the fantastic job BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL have done:|

Keepers Pool Swimming Baths

hi all hope you like this one filmed 15 years ago and taken off video so excuse the quality but it beats what we have nowadays

That's a great photo Historymaker. I remember the changing rooms with all the different colour doors. The rubber wrist bands we had to ware.

WOT!!!
How dare BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL let the "Royal" sign get into such a state.

SHAME ON THEM:| :grrrrrr:

Birmingham City Council had those signs removed when they pinched
sutton from Warwickshire.
One was found in ex Councillor Mrs Marjory Carpenters garden when she died, it was re-furbished at the expence of a local man
and now stands in a field, facing the road as you aproach Four Oaks from shenstone It took ages to get planning permission for this to be done.

Royal Sutton Coldfield

The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield is an ancient town once forming part of the
Kingdom of Mercia. Before the Conquest its wood and chase provided sport for
the Mercian earles as the did for the subsequent royalty and nobility until the
time of Bishop Vesey in the tudor period .The Doomsday Book entry for
Sutton Coldfield the first known written mention of the town describes the
1,000 acres of arable land as having 22 ploughs ten acres of meadow
woodland two legues long and one legue wide and when exploited its
value was thirty shillings -------150 pence if you are young ------
The value of the manor was four pounds and it was held by by Edwin
Earl of Mercia for the King.

Under the Earls of Warwick Sutton Coldfield thrived it held a weekly
market and an annual fair and for a time Sutton market was one of
the most important in the district Sutton Coldfield became a royal manor
in 1489and it remained in the hands of the crown until 1528 when
through Bishop Vesey Henry VIII granted the town its first Charter
of incorporation .The Charter decreed that the town and village shall
be for ever -after be accounted named and called the
Royal Town of Sutton Colfield and a corporation of twenty five men
known as the warden and Society was created with all manororial
rights powers and liberties.
The corporation of Sutton Coldfield recorded its appreciation of Bishop
Vesey in 1533 in these words.
Through his own efforts and at his own expense he has transformed
Sutton from a poor ruinous country place into a flourishing and
prosperous town and he has bestowed houses and cattle on the people
here who had been completely destitute before.
