I'm very late to the party, I'm a new member, but I'm so glad I found this thread, plus the Sutton Park thread too, which was quite a read! I've lived in Sutton all of my life, with my maternal roots in Sutton going back to at least my great-grandparents. I was fascinated by this photo in an earlier post too, as I currently work in one of the buildings opposite the town hall, 2 Upper Clifton Rd, next to the property on the corner of Upper Clifton and Anchorage. The buildings adjacent and continuing to the rear are no longer there, now a car park and commercial property, but it did make we wonder about the history of the building, as the rumours in the office are that is was once a hospital of some sort, which I struggled to reconcile, but if there were additional buildings at the time, then this suddenly becomes more plausible. I love my history, so I will continue to follow this particular thread with great interest.
