Nearly curtains in 1929....
The Birmingham Civic Society (BCS) made great efforts to save Stratford House but it seemed to be the end when by 1929 they had failed to raise enough cash:
After a further unsuccessful attempt at salvation by the "Stratford House Preservation Fund Committee", which wasn't endorsed by the BCS, demolition looked inevitable.
But then "The railway scheme which threatened its demolition was halted by war conditions and in January 1945, after temporary use as railway offices, the building was vacated owing to its doubtful structural condition at that time"........
