Strange Czech Rail Crash

Sent me by a Czech friend are these photos of a recent level crossing crash where a railcar has put a car transporter lorry on the rails and itself ended up on the side of the road. Another train has managed to pull up without hitting the lorry and the upturned car there had fallen off the lorry. I have no explanation with these photos as I don't speak Czech (and he dose't speak English!) I reckon the weather might have had something to do with it. Would probably be down to the be wrong kind of snow over here!

How do you and your Czech friend communicate if neither of you speaks the others language? The photos were excellent and I hope that bo one was hurt in the accident.

from Radio Prague - it's an old news item, but says that many crossings have (had?) lights only and no barrier. It seems to suggest there are many crossing accidents, and a lot of them fatal.

Right here in our Belgian village we have level crossings without lights, bells or barriers! One day the local church warden cycled over without looking and was killed.

He was a trolleybus driver from a place called Usti Nad Labem I met at a Czech Bus Rally when I was with a party of West Midlands Travel drivers that took a Scania double decker over to the rally (called there an 'Autofest') in 1995. As he speaks fluent German and I had learnt a bit of German at school we managed to get by and have kept in touch and met up ever since. His interests are in trams and railways as well as buses and his son is a Station Master on the Czech State Railways after going through the State Railway College after he left school. Here is my friend with his son and it's interesting that small and many even quite big stations include the signalling equipment for train movements through the station so the Station Master has the responsibility of being signalman as well. Have also put latest weather pics on as well.
