Steward Street School

Theschool in this Newspaper clipping talks of ‘Stewart’ Street School. But should it be Steward Street School ? If it’s ‘Steward’ we have a thread here https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/steward-street-school.44875/

STEWARD STREET COUNTY PRIMARY SCHOOL, Spring Hill. Steward St. Bd. Sch. opened 1873 by Birm. Sch. Bd. Accom. 1,036 B, G, I. Fees 2d.–3d. All fees reduced to 1d. in 1890, because of poverty of children: in one month of 1889,2/3boys' fees were in arrears, while there were 513 free orders (n.o.b. 1,172) in 1889. Bd. of Ed. demanded minor improvements in premises 1912. Experimental open-air classroom erected in playground 1914. Altered and reorganized 1932 for SB, JM, I. SB dept. closed 1943. Practical rooms used by neighbouring modern schs. Accom. 1961: 13 classrooms, 3 halls.

The gentleman on the bottom right holding the pen is Mr. Cogley, a firm but fair teacher. The young woman's profile is my mentor and teacher Nerys Evans. The day the school closed she hugged me so tight as though she was losing a son.
