Hi I am looking for my dads family on the 1911 census to no avail, my grandfather was William Henry Stevens born 1876 Dudley, he married Matilda roden b. 1886 Aston. They didn't marry till my father was 10 and he was the youngest of about 22 children (not all survived) Half of the family's surname is Roden and Half is Stevens, the reason being my father said, was that my great grandmother roden got it all mixed up when she relayed the information to the registrar! In 1911 they had to my knowledge the following children all surname roden. William Henry Samuel b. 1905 , Henry born 1906, Florence May b. 1907 Winifred b.1909 d. 1909 (so would not be on 1911)then twins Sarah Jane and Arthur b. 1910 Arthur d. jan 1911 and Sarah died 1912.
in january 1911 when arthur died the place of death was 8 lowans terrace clayton road. I was using this as an indicator to find the family, but no stevens or roden were at the address. I have tried 8 devon street were they lived in oct 1911 and 18 lime grove walter street where they lived in oct 1912.
I have run out of ideas, anyone have any? Rest of the stevens clan are.
lily b. 1911 d. 1912
gladys b. 1912 d. 1918
edith b. 1914 died 1914
ivy b. 1915 d. 1991
leonard b. 1917 d. 1991
irene b. 1918 d. 1918
gladys b. 1919
frank horace b. 1921 d1922
lily marion b. 1922 d.2003
edna b. 1924 d.?
ernest b. 1926 (my dad still living)
vera b. 1928 d.?
Have still to find the rest of the family they lived at 18 lime grove walter street nechells till i my grandfather died in 1955 i believe.

thank you wendy appreciate your posting now all i need to do is find them in the 1911 which you would think would be an easy thing , but for some reason it is a brick wall!

thanks astonian, i am not sure if the stevens boat people are related to my line or not, as the stevens clan are a hard lot to research, my father said when he was young he was always told to go play when the adults were talking and he was never told family stuff as ït was none of his business he was told! Which actually my aunt glad told my dad to tell me when i was researching the family tree, i told my dad it was business as i was part of the family! My dad did say that when his father had been drinking he would tell him things which may or may not be true, like my grandfathers father, henry stevens who married selina large changed his name from broom to stevens because he was kicked out of the army, so he changed his name to stevens and joined back up...now how true this is i dont know, but i have my great grandfather henry (whose father was john according to the marriage certificate) going back to 1871 on a census in wolverhampton and it says he was born in bridgnorth in circa 1842, i cannot find anything else out about him.
good luck in your search christine

HI Kristine nice to hear from you again i thought i would mention to you just in case there may have been a tree connection.
This is my first attempt to try and trace my family tree of the Stevens family my father was William Stevens as well but I don't know his second Christian name unfortunately but his father as i was told was a William Stevens but like my father i do not know if he had a second christian name either.
I have been previously a long tiome ago benn told his brothers and sisters was a step brother and sisters ;to him ; how true i am not sure ;
i can recall my grand mother saying when i was growing up that she lived in Parliament street Aston and Cromwell street Nechells. I
got to know the family of these ladies as aunties and the brother as uncle but never either really got to know of grand father Stevens as he was not there in my growing up. I believe there was another brother called Albert but he got killed in the Somme ;
and i was told that my grand mother at what point lived in Parliament stree Aston and her name then was Jennings ; so i can only presume she moved to
Cromwell street Nechells from there and then to George rd Erdinton ;alleged that my Father was born there how true i do not know he was born dec 1912 i think it was but not knowing whom is real father was i have put it on the forum hoping against the odds that some one will be able to find some think out ;
look foreword to hearing of your success in the near future best wishes astonian;;
