Love that photo, remember the teachers…I was there from 1955 to 62 so just missed you. Enjoyed school then but the ‘big school’ Sir Wilfred Martineau was too much, too big. Lived at Stechford Gentleman’s club until 1966, Dad was Steward there and we lived in bungalow at the back. Met a few of the snooker greats there, Jo Davies for one.

Yes, that's what I remember, never knew it as anything else. My friend was sent to the outdoor there, can't remember what for, it was about the late 50's, it was a long wait because they had to serve people in the pub first.Bringing back memories, I remember all of those shops, Lathams had a smell of something, oil cloth perhaps?

No idea if this is of any relevance but I believe my parents worked at a photographers in Stechford, possibly The Criterion. My mother told me someone there threw some kind of acid in her face, hopefully an accident, but it may have affected one eye!

Before WW2 Levis's were famous for their motorcycles, I think they mainly made HEC compressors
post war.

That was the first thing I noticed......
I have frequently used that establishment many times in the past.. however it may be the only social club left in that area....
I know Lea Hall Legion is still operating , Parkinson's social and the Gardeners social have closed ..... all great clubs....
Just , wondering how long this social has left.....
 
My Dad was a member of the East Birmingham Allotment Holders club, although to my knowledge he never went anywhere near a garden spade! I suppose that's another one that's disappeared........

I bet he was a good darts player though.....
It's a sad sign of a generation change of social life , with the club's disappearing and community centres closing , where does the youth and young people go ?
Even the pubs are closing at a alarming rate....
I suppose , with all the new I T gadgets available now they do not need to leave their own house for entertainment.
And of course , this will have a detrimental effect on their social skills.....
 
Haha, yes he was Tony! And dominoes, cards etc. I agree with you, it's very sad about social clubs. pubs closing. Yes one can get entertainment in the house if desired, but there's nothing like going out and socialising and meeting people. That's what life's about especially when you’re young.

I am not surprised of your dad's pub games skills...
Try asking a young person or a someone in their thirties if they fancy a game of crib , cards or billiards.... they would look at you if you was from another world..... but , they would play space invaders with you... lol....

Proper chippy not like the crap ones of today and i live in Blackpool there's no decent one here
we always get of the train at Dudley on way to Brum there's a couple of decent ones there
