And you were there when the area was at its best, so much greenery and front gardens too, quite different to us having just a back yard shared by four families. A scene like that wouldn't be out of place in the Cotswolds.

I found this beautiful image on the skyscrapers.com website, there are 2 pictures but one is just the other reversed. Lots of pictures on there that I have not seen before. I've checked BHF and can't see it anywhere.

I've seen the photo before, it is a Phyllis Nicklin image from 1953. The one you posted is the right way round though I have seen the reversed version. I have happy memories of my schooldays at St Peter's, also made my first Communion at the church in 1958......how time flies!

St Peter's Chapel, St Peter's Place

I have just obtained a marriage cert for relatives married in 1856, and they were married in St Peter's Chapel, St Peter's Place. Can anyone tell me which church this is, as I know there are several Peter's.
They were Irish, and as such RC, so hope that should help.

Welcome Spitfire I went to the school also I was Baptised there and served mass there . Miss Clements(Headmistress) Mrs McKyntyre(Deputy) Mr Gunn teacher Mrs Harrison teacher Mr Padden teacher to name but five good old days, Even with the smell of stale smoke and beer from the clubroom by the kitchen

Brings back memories , all my old teachers

Wes St Peters church was in St Peters Place just off Broad St the church was built in the reformation it was built with a small spire as to look like a factory as not to raise suspicion

My Parents were married there and my first son was also christened there and we all went to St Peter's school,the I C C now stands directly on its siteMossy

Absolutely right, just off Broad Street opposite Gaa St.

This simple drawing of the Chapel by L W Clarke was made in 1842. It was built in 1786, but by the time of the drawing it had already been extended twice, once in 1802 and again in 1825.



Phyllis Nicklin captured the building (along with the adjoining house) in 1967, showing further modifications had been made to the Chapel after Clarke's drawing including additional windows and changes to the entrance.


The intterior at the start of demolition in 1969. The remains buried in the graveyard were reinterred at Oscott RC cemetery, Sutton Coldfield before building work commenced on the Convention Centre.

My God it's a surprise how much this has taken me aback.

I lived in Blucher Street and mom and I always walked along the canal walkway from Commercial St every day to Broad St and St Peters which was the first school I ever went to.

I remember mom worrying about leaving me but I just dived into the welcoming arms of Mrs/Miss Macintyre and never thought about mom outside worrying.

I loved it and when I had to go home at dinner time I cried and demanded to go back in.

Kids huh?

We were cleared out of Blucher St when they decided to build the 'Flatted factory' and sent to Moseley to live but I was still having to go to St Peters for that term after the Coronation (when we moved in on Coronation week)

Mom used to put me on the number 1 bus and ask the conductor to put me off at St Peter's Place which happened until the new school year started August September time when they found me a place at English Martyrs.

I loved that school even remember the door into the church from the playground and the brick built toilets against the wall of St Peter's Place walkway.

Didn't like the black slug I found in a school dinner potato though...

Yuck.
