St Marys Church - William & Elizabeth Jackson 1850

Tim Jackson

knowlegable brummie
Hi,

Looking for some help in locating my great great grandad as I cant seem to find his death. It seems most of the families church activities were at St Marys Church in Aston Manor.

I know the church was demolised in the 70's so wondered what happened to the graves/headstones. Also any info on the Jackson's / Ansell's would be so helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Tim.

Difficult to work out which death is your William Jackson, there are a few possibilities.

Living in Chester St, Duddeston area in 1911 so some distance from St Mary's.

Hi. He was born in Halesowen, Worcester in 1852 but moved to Aston Manor, Birmingham.

I have found lots of history relating to that church in regard to family marriages but struggling to find his death.

I am not 100% it was that church but trying to go through the potentials.

Tim.

There seems to be 2 possibilities.

William is listed on the 1912 ER at 130 Chester St but in 1920 only Elizabeth and 2 sons (Arthur and Albert) are listed implying that he died between those dates.

Going by age the best match is a death registered Jun 1919 Bham. However, Duddeston being in Aston there's one Jun 1915, age a year or so out.

WOW that was quick. I am using Ancestry but couldn’t find it on there. I will look now. Thanks so much. I am quite new to this research.

If there’s only one I could order the death certificate which would tell
Me wouldn’t it?

What source do you use?

Tim.

I didn't see Aston Manor and assumed it was St Mary's Whittall St. 130 is near Aston Brook St.

The death certificate may tell you as long as you can match the address or the informant.

Not certain how much info it lists at that time but if it just lists the informant as Elizabeth, wife, then it wouldn't rule it out but it wouldn't make it a definite and if he died away from home and it lists that address, again that wouldn't help.

I use a combination of Ancestry, familysearch and freebmd.

The death cert won't tell you where he is buried. St Mary's Aston Brook seems to have some burial lined but records on Ancestry stop in the late 1800s.

He couldn’t of died before 1920 because he was at his sons wedding and I have photo evidence. That wedding was at April 3rd 1930 at St Mary’s Church, Aston Brook.

As I say he's not at the address in 1920.

There's a death Mar qtr 1922 Bham. Again age is not quite right.

yes quite correct tim ..if the electoral roll was taken after the wedding dated 3rd april 1920 then william would not be listed on the 1920 electoral roll..

Can you please share the 1920 ER or tell me where you found it as I can’t. Thanks.

Also just found a marriage certificate of his other daughter in Aug 1923 where he is listed as her father but deceased. So he must of died between 1920-1923.

The daughter who got married though isn’t in the ER in 1920 at 130 Chester street but is at that address on the marriage certificate in Aug 1923.

That might depend on her age. Single women over 21 ony got the vote in 1928
May I ask what her name was?

Possible burials at Witton but there are 2 in that quarter so I can't be sure.

I didn’t know that.

She was Ada Jackson until 1923 then Barnickle. Just found she was at that address in 1925 listed as Ada Jackson and her husband as Maurice Barnickle with her brother and his wife but their surnames are correct. (Jackson)

Ignore that. She was listed under her new married name, Barnickle. The screen is so small.
