St Mary Whittall Street Look Ups

Jill

master brummie
Could some kind person do a death look-up for me please? George Henn was buried at the above chapel (now demolished) about 1827 I believe. Any further information would be much appreciated. Jill

Thank you Wendy. I don't live in Birmingham so cannot visit the library as often as I would like but will have a look next time I go. Jill

Jill if you ask nicely, someone may help with a look up on their next visit.

These seem to be missing at Birmingham Library, the one reel, says up to 1856, but stops at 1836! Does anyone know if the Archives has these PRs??

Does anyone have access to St Mary Whittall Street burials please? A Maria LONGMORE buried there on 17 January 1810 appears on the NBI with no further details. Just wondered if parents are shown in the actual register. Many thanks.

I too would be intrested in this one as I have a 'Beeley' buried there in the early 1800's

thanx in advance...

I think the only records are at Central Library. I have not found any on line or on C.D.

I have posted some pictures on this thread.

Thanks, Wendy, I guess it will have to wait until my September trip then. It's surprising how few photos of the church have survived though. It may not have been the prettiest building around, but it was 'different'!

Yes Maurice I suppose because it was demolished early. The photo I posted was one I purchased a copy of at Central Libray about 6 years ago.:)

Hello Maurice

Did you ever find information on the St Mary Whittall Street burials? I have just found another burial there which I would like information on if anyone has access to the records. James Stevens was buried there on 8 July 1804, and I wondered if there was any more information in the records.

Hello Judy,

Nice to see you again! :)

No, it's now on my September/October Birmingham Visit To Do List - that's assuming that the film is made available with all the closures and shifting of materials from one place to the other!

If no one else has sorted these Whittall Street problems beforehand, I'll try to sort them all in the same visit. We'll leave here on the first day of the cheaper ferry fares - generally the second week of September - and spend a few days with my son & family in Brussels before heading in the direction of the UK, so I doubt if Brum will see us before the first week in October.

EDIT: Just noticed that this was a 2009 thread and we didn't go over in autumn last year because we'd attended youngest son's wedding in the February.

I wasn't expecting to find any more detail than that and with LONGMORE being a fairly rare name, it would be sufficient for my purpose. Thanks for posting anyway.

John:

Yes, I'm aware of David's service, but sending a fiver from here with about a month in total lost in transit each way, I think I can wait until the autumn, having already waited since 2009. :)

Hi Maurice :)

Enjoy your September/October trip! I bet you are looking forward to seeing the family again. Good luck in your research. I hope you find what you are looking for. Let me know how you get on.

John - I have used David Pullar before but think in this instance I'll wait until I get chance to visit Brum myself!

Hi Acklam

I have looked at the registers a few years ago, and am trying to find out an address and age at death if possible. Thanks for your reply.

Judy

Hi Judy,

Yes, I will have a new grandson to meet too - Elliot Peter born on 1st April. So the SHEPPARD name carries on - all the rest were either girls or else born to my daughter. I'll email you before I leave and if you haven't got the Whittall Street one I'll look it up when I do mine.

Maurice

Thanks for the offer Maurice, I might take you up on that. I thought I saw that you had a new grandchild. Elliot is a lovely name, and it is fantastic that he is carrying the Sheppard name on.
