Knowing how resourceful members are here! :D
I'm looking for any image of St Laurences' Church on the Corner Dartmouth Street and Love Lane. Listed as Aston, but on my 1913 map it is closer to Duddeston (St Mary's Ward)

Thank you.

Fantastic... Thank You AGAIN Postie.. may call on your expertise again!

I believe this church stood on Dartmouth Middleway and was demolished in 1951 and was wandering if anyone had any info about it. A picture would be amazing (if unlikely I know!)

My grandfather and his father were bother married there.

This church was posted on here recently, I think it may have been Postie who posted it. I have had a play with the search engine but I can't seem to find it.

If someone doesn't come on and direct you to it, then I don't worry I will repost it for you, but I don't think I will have to.

Phil

I thought i had saved a pic of it but can't find it now, my Aunt married there in 1930, so if anyone can repost a pic i'd be very grateful too :)

I'm sure Postie won't mind.

St LawrenceChurch, Dartmouth Street. Designed by J.A Chatwin and built with the aid of a £10,000 gift from Miss Louisa Ryland. It was consecrated in 1868 and it closed in 1951.

Thanks very much. Photographs always make family history seem a lot more real. If only it was still there.

Woo hoo thanks for that pic, i can now compare it to the one i have of them outside the main doors on their wedding day as you can't see the whole church :)

claire. isnt it great when you find a pic thats means so much to your family history. thats why my thing is finding old pics not just for myself but for others who are searching. wales.:)

It sure does, my Aunt bless her lived to 96, she died 7 years ago now, she never had children of her own and she loved my kids to bits, so it's great finding a picture of where she was married.. my Nan has a big framed pic of her and her husband in the doorway leaving the church, I wish the church was still there so i could go visit, but it isn't so this is the next best thing for me... some of the old street pics i have loved, it's given me chance to see what life was like back then for them, i can imagine them walking those streets, and i always think it's nice so to speak to walk in their footsteps, most of the roads are still here today but so different now, all the same a part of them still lives on there in my mind :)

claire i endorse everything you have said. couldnt put it any better. have you put any family pics on the site. i would love to see them if you have. dont forget if you need any perticular ones of streets etc just ask there is always someone will to help you. wales.:)

I put some on our parents parents page 21 i think or just after, some of the pics i posted i only got this year after much bullying of mom and nan lol I am hoping to get more copies soon when i visit my Nan, she's digging out all her old stuff My mom found a very old victorian one the other day i think it's my Gt Grandfather with his dad but it's badly faded so i am going to find out if there is any way i can get it restored at all, but fear it is too far gone :(

Oh don't worry i have been asking loads, i will drive everyone mad i think hehe

your a girl after me own heart claire lol will look at the pics you have put on. ive put on some badly damaged pics and some of the members are very good at doing a bit of restoration work on them and reposting so put the faded one on im sure someone will have a go for you. lyn

Oh that's great Wales, the Man is still quite clear but the child is very faded but you can see the shirt with frilly neckline and straw hat just, my mom is going to check with my Nan if she knows for sure who it is as mom got the pics from one of her boxes but as soon as i can i'll post it and hopefully someone will be able to do something with it, that would be great :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

I have a marriage certificate here dated 6 October 1878. The church was St.Lawrence in the parish of Aston in the County of Warwick. Does anyone know where this church was/is?

Regards

Steve

The photos must have been taken during the war, as there is a sign showing pointing to Shelters - which I presume were air raid shelters. First time I have seen a photo showing such a sign.

If it's not too late to reply, yes they were air raid shelters, on the signs you can see above the word Shelter ARP stands for Air Raid Precautions, also you can see there is no light fitting on the (gas) lampost on the centre island in the road, the shelters called 'Surface shelters' were built on church ground at most churches for use by the congregation if caught there during an air raid, also as a lad I was a member of the CLB at St Lawrence's -- the Church Lada Brigade.
