St Chads Pheasey

Goffy

master brummie
I used to sing in the choir at St Chads on the Pheasey, it is on the 29a bus terminus island. was only a wooden building in those days, but since it as been rebuilt it has been renamed 'The Beacon Church'

Goffy walked past there lots of times in the past, remember the tea, coffee caravan at the terminus, Dave from just down Hillingdford :)

Hi Dave, That caravan, I think it was there for the bus drivers. I cannot remember much about the island as it was then, I think Collingwood school was there then, I lived with my parents in Kingstanding (Kettlehouse road) in those days, and used to walk to the church from there. But we have lived in Frampton way, more recently for 15 years and Doe Bank lane before that. It was a good picture of the Trees from around then, in the Queslett Road posting.

Goffy a lot has changed the school, my old school, still there but a Community centre, opposite the Church, my last classroom now gone was on the play ground, now the car park, was lucky to be there just before it was demolished (my last classroom), still call in there sometimes to give Blood in the old school hall, time to think back in time:),
your right the tea place was for the bus crews mainly Dave
ps did see the photo of the Tree`s have some from recent,
did a lot of drinking in there

Am I right in thinking that this church is situated at the junction of Hillingford Avenue and Collingwood Drive? Across the road in my youth was a senior school which later became just a junior school when the pupils wer moved up to Beacon rd school where we used to go to a disco. Also opposite was a group of shops which included a laundromat which was called the Wishy-Washy where we used to hang around inside on cold winter evenings. Opposite this was the local library. Is it still the same? Must be nearly 35 years since I've visited this area.

Mannanan correct this is the row of shops on Collingwood Drive, the school I left in 1959, photo`s to follow, is now a community centre includes the library, also I give Blood in my old School hall at times.

Hi there, Sadly the Library you refer to is now a block of low rise flats.
