Sparkes

I am searching for any information on my GGG Grandfather Edward Sparkes. The earliest record I have is that he is listed in the 1841 census as living with Thomas and Sarah Hewson in summer lane Birmingham. Three of his siblings James,Ann and Phoebe also were living there. Jamesw later married the Hewson's daughter Mary.
Any help with these connections would be greatly appreciated. It is a 25 year old brick wall.

ive no idea whether this info is any good to you geoff but looking in the directories for bham prior to 1841 i have found

in 1823 joseph sparkes - carpenter and broker - 95 livery street.
and in 1833 phoebe sparkes - broker - 95 livery street.

i thought i would just let you know, particularly as phoebe is mentioned and there was an apparent sister to edward sparkes named phoebe.

but ... on the st. martins records theres also a burial in 1839 of samuel son of william and phoebe sparkes. summer lane. aged 3 mths. so maybe phoebe on the 1841 census is the wife of a william sparkes. (not a sister to edward).

all the best, shera

Thanks Shera.
I did know of the livery street Phoebe, but I had not thought of her in that light. I will check my records and come back.
Greatly appreciate your interest and help.
