Southwells Paint Enamellers - Lower Tower St

Key Hill Brian

Proud Brummie
Finally started my family tree now everyones dead and it's too late to question them - typical!

My Father was barely 3 when his dad died, and as gran remarried (she had her 10 child 3 months after the funeral - but still married a chap with half a dozen of his own to bring up in addition!).
The family naturally lost touch with my late grandads family - Southwell, but my dad always said his aunt had 2 factories in Lower Tower St, which was the oldest paint Enamellers. I have discovered that it could not be his aunt (there are only 2 of them), but it was his fathers Aunt - Mary Ann Southwell born c1867.

We are talking about the 1920's.

Does anyone know or can confirm any such factories at that time and if so their names or owners names?

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Brian:)

Cheers Mike - that confirmed what my dad had said - looks like she was a decent businesswoman to have survived so long!

Many many thanks
