Could that be the a rear view of The GEC Magnet Club? next to Brookvale Park and the M6 I believe it's now a Greek Community Centre, many times I have practiced running on the track there for Deykin Ave School sports Day at The Alexandra Sport Stadium. Anyone any other ideas. Eric

.... a technical query.
Given the excellent quality of the three photographs initially posted by 500miles and the clarity of Pedrocut's two additional shots, could I ask please the maker and model name/number of the equipment used to digitalise the original slides? I have umpteen boxes of slides taken between 1971 and 1990 with scenes of Birmingham and surrounding places of interest; I would love to convert them to jpeg or jpg but am baffled by makers declarations and claims. Or should I have them done professionally? Your ideas, recommendations and suggestions please, David

Hi db84124,

I had a few slides of my own, but came into possession of 100’s by my late uncle. There were some superb photos and it occurred to me that it was worthwhile to convert them to digital form to enjoy them myself and by others that would be interested.

I purchased a slide/film converter and was very pleased with the results, but I think to get the best out of them you must be able to use Photoshop or an equivalent. The slides can be dirty and take a lot of cleaning, but you will never be able to get rid of all the marks, but when touched up with Photoshop they can be a revelation, but it is a labour of love!

Here is a link to one of my uncle’s slides that I have uploaded on Panoramio, but not entirely cleaned up; it could be better. (Click on to enlarge). The second link is to the same picture taken in recent times for you to compare.

If you can master Photoshop then I recommend a Plustek OpticFilm 7300, it is expensive but it has been well worth it for me. Also, if you have the negatives for film, the scanner makes a much better job than an ordinary scan of the picture.

If you need any more info let me know, all the best Peter.

Might be a silly question Lyn but is it a developed roll of film ? What size is the film as you can usually scan negatives on a flatbed photo scanner. On 35mm it is possible to run those through a slide/negative scanner.

oh dear mike....ive just looked at it again and i think it may be music tape...on the box it says scotch brand magnetic tape..150 polyester extra play...3m....
