Solderer

May I ask where you found that phrase? If it is from a census is it clearly written?
From the census my gt,grandad was a military solderer in 1871-1901 in worked 28 smith street Hockley by jewellery quarter Aston . His wife and two of his children was solderer .

His name isn't James Page is it? He's listed as a Military Ornament Solderer on the 1881 transcript.

Even if this isn't him, that's possible what he was.

As I expect you know, soldering is a means of fixing 2 pieces of metal together. So, I assume, a military solderer worked on things like cap badges and military insignia.

Just off the top of my head, I know some gun barrels were soldered together, so maybe he was working in the munitions industry
