Re: trying to find jack smith

Hi Lyn, I have a few Jacks in my family and they were all christened John. So with that in mind I looked on BMD for J Smith between 1900 and 1904, there are about 2 dozen John Smiths, and only 1 Jack, he is Jack Lewis Smith registered March quarter 1901 ref Birmingham 6D 86. Sometimes you have to get the wrong certificate to get to the right person, but two dozen is going some.

Hope you are ok.:)

Re: trying to find jack smith

I think nearly everyone has a Jack or John Smith in their family, I have two!

Re: trying to find jack smith

thanks ever so much di and wendy.. but i have led you astray a bit and only just realised my error.. if this jack or indeed maybe john smith was a 40 year old widower in 1953 that would have made his birth year around 1913 not 1903 as put. cant do me sums. this enquiry is a delicate one which does involvea family member who is still very much alive and given the nature of it it would not surprise me if i draw a blank on this one. so if its not to much trouble could i have a search for any jack or indeed john smiths from round about 1912 to be on the safe side.

thank you all.

Re: trying to find jack smith

hi wendy... yes ive looked there. its not showing any births for either a jack or john smith from the year 1912... i reckon i am looking for the prevervial needle in a haystack with this one as it is very complicated... when i get some more credits for the other sites i may have more luck.. will be doing that next week.

will keep you informed.

Re: trying to find jack smith

hi chris.. thank you very much for the info...like i said this will be a difficult one.. but briefly my dads aunts son who has tracked me down was adopted at birth in 1953. he has now got access to the social services papers which states his father was a jack smith aged 40 widower but strangly on his birth certificate the fathers name is left blank... the jack smith in aston is possible also the one born in 1912 in birmingham.as this is the right area but still a very long shot. seems i may have to find out if either of them married and became a widower. i reckon this could take some time sorting out or it maybe that its so complex that it might not be possible.

thanks everso for you help at least its a starting point.:) will let you know should we turn anything up.

Re: trying to find jack smith

Hi there Astoness, warm greetings from Sydney Australia. I have a Jack Smith in my family tree but I haven't dome any research so far on this man. All I can say is Jack Smith married one of my Great Aunts. They all lived in Birmingham. Jack and Beatrice raised three children two sons and a daughter.

We too have a slight problem with this enquiry and would be able to offer more details and information if we knew the basis of your enquiry and the circumstances that you refer to as delicate.

The birth dates you quoted for Jack are probably in the right ball park for the Jack Smith in our tree.

Regards,

Snowball.
