Hya John
Many thanks for that info
These Smith's are a heck of a job to track down.
I do know that John and Beatrice had a cafe at the top end of Garrison street during the 1930's. I know also that they moved later to somewhere to a road or street opposite the swan yardley ( an area at the back of where the opticians is on the corner).
Anyone who remembers this would probably be in their late 70's by now.
I also know there were 3 children, 1 girl and 2 boys.
One of the boys was a Frank Smith but have no knowledge of the other two.
would anyone else know what the nearest school would have been to garrison street during the 30's
grateful thanks

Hello Smithy, those numbers and letters are his Army record. The absent voters list recorded men not at home but serving in the forces. You have hit gold, put your question into the WW1 section and you will get a translation. I would only be guessing.:)

Post moved to WW1

I hope this means what I think.

That Beatrice was born in 1921.
I have the marriage lines of Beatrice Bradnock and my John smith and knew that there was a daughter.
Had second guessed it would have been Beatrice but could not find it
This is the Bradnock family
I had looked for a long time
I do hope I am reading this correctly as this is my husbands cousin.
He is very ill and I need to get a move on.
Many thanks for your help

Yes Beatrice A Smith mother Maiden name Bradnock registered September qtr 1921

There is also a birth of Hugh J B Smith Sept qtr 1914 which would be before their marriage but you can ask Birmingham register office for the certificate and tell them you only want it if the parents are John and Beatrice,so if it is not them you save your money.

Sorry should have said that Hugh J B Smith registered 1914 his mothers maiden name was Bradnock

Re: re-smith Garrison street

Hello folks from a dark windy night in outer Sydney Australia.

My Mother is 90 years of age and still living near us in Sydney. Her mother, and hence my grandmother was Julia Marklew nee Bradnock. Beatrice Bradnock was Julia's youngest sister. My Mother could answer any questions you have on this family - just ask. Beatrice married jack Smith and they had three children, two sons Frank and Harry and a daughter Florence. Frank and Harry both served in WW2 and my Mother, as their cousin, corresponded with both of them.

Julia Bradnock married John Henry Marklew and they lived at 1 back of 37 Garrison Street, the Smiths lived just a few doors away.

Are we related ?

What other questions do you have ?

Regards,

Snowball.

Re: re-smith Garrison street

Hey there Smithy, Following my previous reply to your post on the Smith family of Garrison Street we have had a family conference here at our home in Kentlyn, Australia. We have concluded that we are related to you, distantly, but still related.

This is where I get my crystal ball out. Some of this is based on what we conclude is the most likely scenario. Jack Smith married Beatrice Bradnock. Jack and Beatrice had three children, the firstborn was Florence who was my Mother's best friend and soul mate for many years. We have most of the details on Florence's life. The next child born would have been Harry, he was one of my Mother's cousins, Harry served in the Airborne Forces in WW2, he was a paratrooper. He married a girl called Margaret and they had children. The last born would have been another son called Frank, Frank was in the Navy during WW2 and we have lots of details on his experiences during the war. Frank got married after the war but we arn't sure of his wife's name. He had one child, a little girl that was born blind. He had other children possbly two sons one of whom , we think, was called Derek, the other was possibly called Graham. How am I going so far ?

Our best guess, based on your age, dates known to us, photographs and a bottle of really good red wine is that you are the wife of one of Frank's sons, probably Derek. If I'm right you owe me another bottle of a really good red wine.:D

More to follow. Regards, Snowball.

Re: re-smith Garrison street

Hya Snowball please forgive me I am trembling with amazement and joy.

You owe me a bottle of red wine. However I will write more later today as I need a few cups of strong tea.
I have been researching these smiths for some years. I have even had wonderful help from the folks on here.
Have even paid to have research done in London. love and light doreen smith

Re: re-smith Garrison street

Hi there Smithy,

Have just read some of your other posts and realise that my previous assumptions were wrong. The name Thomas Smith has got me a bit baffled, he can't be the son of Frank Smith since you say that Thomas is the only son of his father. That might mean that Thomas could be the son of Harry Smith but that would seem unlikely since you obviously have some record of Frank Smith but didn't know that Harry was Frank's brother - so, where does that leave us.

Is your family line connected further back than John Smith's family ? possibly your Smith line comes from some other male member of the family, if John Smith had a brother perhaps the link comes from there ? :confused2:

Re: re-smith Garrison street

BINGO .......

John Smith was Thomas Smith's older brother. The wording on some previous posts had me a bit confused but I'm sure now that this is the connection.

Since we are 9 hours ahead of you here in Australia I'll sign off for now and hope that you can reply such that I'll read it later with my breakfast.

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY

Regards,

Snowball.:D
