Smethwick West Railway Station

brumie till i die

proper brummie kid
I' looking for info about Smethwick West Railway Station from around 1881. What Train companies used it, was it a busy station and any photos. I have just found out that my great great grandad worked there as a railway Labourer does anyone know what this would have involved?
Thanks in advance

A railway company Labourer was more likely to have been involved with track and trackside land maintenance than actual station work, and be part of a "Track gang" based at a station and responsible for a "Length" of track either side of it.

Attached below is a view of the then new Shirley station on the Great Western Birmingham - Stratford - Honeyboure line, with a track gang in attendance.
