Sarah Oldfield

I have had so much help on here, for which I am really grateful, so I thought I would try with the family mystery.

My Gt Grandmother was Sarah Oldfield (Nee' Browning) she was born in Birmingham 9 Jan 1864 in Tanter St. She is on the 1901 census living as a lodger in Gt Russell St. Sarah is supposed to have drowned herself in the canal in Rea St, but I have never been able to find her death registration. I thought at one stage that I had found her with a death in 1922, but this turned out to be the wife of a William Michael Oldfield, my Gt Grandfathers name was James John Westcott Oldfield, though he was only ever known as James Oldfield.

At the time of Sarah's death, James was supposed to be in America, and I do have a photo of him taken in Philadelphia.

Any help with this mystery would be gratefully received. Thank You.

Barrie.

Hi Barrie
I can't help with your search for Sarah but I thought I'd clear up one detail for you
It probably doesn't have any bearing on your search but I don't think there was ever a canal in Rea street
It was in fact the River Rea after which the street was named
Nowadays it's been built on and it runs underground through Rea Street but in those days it would have been open and a lot deeper than it is now
good luck with your search
