Does anyone know what kind of building this was in 1911. my great- great-Grandfather lived there in 1911, on the census it states lodgers and inmates., was it a type of workhouse? I have come to a brick wall.-
 
hi mary could we have his name and when born please.. will check the 1911 for clues

thanks mary i will take a look..it could be he was living in a boarding/lodging house for men..there was a lot of those around back then

ok mary if you go back to the 1911 census page you will see samuel is down as single..then go back 4 pages and it gives the info that he was living in a salvation army home in the district of st george with him are 143 other men..does not give the exact address but i think there was a sally home in loveday st...i will try and find out a bit more for you

just one thing the title of your thread is 27 taylor and wamer buildings..not quite sure yet what this means so maybe some of our other members could take a look

happy to help mary...i take it you have found samuel and sarah on the 1891 census living in smith street with them are 3 children aged 13.6 and 5 ? also do you have sarah on the 1901 census at the workshouse infirmary also with her is her daughter beatrice aged 17 both are patients ? if you need anymore else please ask

Many thanks Lyn, Yes I have all that information. but I didn't know about where he was staying in 1911. Sarah had died in 1901. I know my grandfather, Albert Taylor, son of Samuel Taylor didn't get on with him. Albert last saw him in 1925 when he knocked on his door in Small Heath. asking to see him but Albert sent my grandmother to see him with 6d and a pkt of woodbines. My grandfather Albert loved his mother but didn't like the way his father treated his mother.
