I am a MA Biography student in Norwich and seeking information, memories and maybe photographs of the following people, surnames of Salingar, Free and Lynn:
Free, Oliver born 1901 in Redditch, Died July 1944 age 42 in Birmingham
Free, Freda (wife) born 1900 in Liverpool, died May 1952 in Birmingham
Sheila Margaret Free (daughter) - known as Margaret - born 1933 in Willesden, died March 1947 age 13.
Address from 1939 was 167 Yardley Wood Road.
The family lived away alot in their holiday cottage in North Wales.
In July 1939 they fostered a 14 year old German Jew who escaped Nazi Germany. He was Gunter Stern and the Frees were his official guardians until he joined the British Army in 1943. I am writing the biography of Gunter, now known as Joe Stirling, who is an 88 year old Norwich resident.
The Frees were both Oxford Gradutes. Freda came from a Russian Jewish family and her brother, Ernest Leon Salingar was a Birmingham doctor and later a surgeon. He died in 1989 in Yorkshire. Leon had two children, Ann who died in 1975, and JOHN (married Jennifer in 1974 in Barton Lancashire and MAY still be alive - ANY CHANCE OF LOCATING HIM WOULD BE BRILLIANT!)
I have one old photograph of Oliver from his Oxford days. Amongst other places Oliver worked at Docker Brothers Paint Factory in Birmingham. In later life, once widowed, Freda, stricken with Parkinsons Disease (?) lived with her mother Anna Salingar and sister Queenie Lynn (husband Jack) at 114 Salisbury Road, Moseley. Other addresses discovered in my search include 70 Sandford Road Moseley, and 19 Woodhurst Road, Moseley.
I would be grateful for any leads on any of the above to enhance my research. Many thanks.
