Sadleir/Sadlier/Sadler (Eveline/Evelyn)

I am researching the Sadleir family. Various census records had the name starting as Sadler in 1841. It progressed to Sadleir. Eveline Sadleir was born in 1910, 260 Aston Lane, Handsworth, West Brom. Mother Mary Nancy Sadleir, father not on birth cert.
Eveline was later known as ~Evelyn Sadlier. She married Leslie Carswell Hadley in 1935, had one child Robert John Hadley and sometime in the 1940's she left and went to London where she worked at Harrods. In 1952 she went to Long Island New York without husband or son.
Whilst in New York she met up with a Joseph Carlton who worked for the Long Island Railroad Company. Not sure if she married him as I haven't been able to locate a marriage cert. However, she did take his name and she died 25 Nov 1985, in Pasco FLorida.

Deborah, ahve you tried searching on familysearch.org, the Mormon site, they have a good record of marriages in the Usa, it's where I found my rels marriage. It's a free site and if the cert is American, they will help you obtain a copy from their family centres for a donation - there is one in Lichfield.
Good luck,
Sue

Hi Sue - Thanks for that. The site gives me her death but no marriage. A cousin of mine has researched using an American records site. I personally don't think she married him, but took his name.
Thanks for your help - Debby

Do you know if she divorced Leslie Carswell Hadley because he died in 1983 so she wouldn't have been able to marry without it.

I would assume so. Leslie Carswell remarried in 1947 (I have sent off for this marriage cert to see how he stated his marital status i.e. single/divorced). Eveline went to London sometime during the 1940's. Bob her son doesn't remember when as he had been evacuated around 1942. I don't know who would have divorced who if indeed they were divorced. When Eveline went to NY she put on the passenger list that she was married. If there was no divorce, Leslie Carswell was a bigamist:ambivalence: I might try and track down the divorce records
