The sad but common fate of Silhill Hall.

Silhill Hall, Solihull, George H. Jones, 1930s.
(Birmingham Archives and Collections)

Stood on corner of Streetsbrook Road and Broad Oaks Road.

A Manor House was established here in the 13th–14th century when the Odingsells (lords of the manor) moved off the earlier moated site at Hobs Moat. Later medieval/early-Tudor rebuilding followed.

Architecture (per VCH): Remains described as a mid- to late-14th-century house with 16th-century alterations—a great hall of four bays (c. 38½ ft), with later wings/changes over the centuries.

And along came Ross…

Remember the story, always imagined the hall was in palatial grounds, not on a street corner! Must have driven past it a "thousand" times. Wasn't there a World's End Garage nearby.

I think that was on the Warwick Road - possibly the other end of Broad Oaks.
There is a petrol station near that end called Broad Oaks Garage.
