Russell Dorothy May Lookup Please - 1905

I'm trying to track down the correct birth of Dorothy May Russell, (father John Russell) born around 1905 in Birmingham. Dorothy May Russell is my grandmother but due to her children being fostered at a relatively early age, I do not have much to go on.

I have her marriage certificate which indicates she was 19 in 1925 and therefore would have been born 1905/1906. This is also where her father's name came from and that she was married in South Birmingham Registry Office.

I have found a Dorothy May Russell birth registered Q3 1905, but on the 1911 census, there is no one of that name in Birmingham. Hence my problem!

I have found a May Russell with a father John Russell living in Sun Street - which is the same street (different house) as on the marriage certificate.

Could someone assist with a parish record look up for the birth of Dorothy May Russell and let me know who the parents are?

I'm hoping that the mother comes out as Florence in which case I have the correct 1911 census entry and have almost certainly found her!

Many Thanks

Dorothy May Russell: Birth registered 3rd quarter 1905, Birmingham, volume 6d page 61
Oh you know that - next time I'll read the whole post!!!

Electoral roll has a John Russell at house 4 court 2 Sun Street, Edgbaston in 1912/20/25/30/35 and /39, there being two ('the elder' and 'the younger') there in 1939. There is a Florence as well.

Re: Lookup Please - Dorothy May Russell 1905

Hi there Davem1995,people swapped their first and middle names around quite a lot,so the family may have just used May on an everyday basis, unless she was naughty and it was then "Dorothy May"!!!

Re: Lookup Please - Dorothy May Russell 1905

Thanks Lloyd - looking much more like the right person! As often happens it seems she may (bad pun!) have been using her middle name in 1911.

Interesting that you are also researching Baker. Dorothy May Russell married John Richard Baker 14 Feb 1925. Her address quoted on the marriage certificate is 4 back of 9 Sun Street Edgbaston. I know they were still at that address in 1938 when my mother was born.

Has your research come across this marriage at all?

Any chance you could let me know who was living at 4/9 Sun Street for those electoral rolls?

Dave

Thanks ladylinda - I didn't see your response until I'd posted mine but I've come across that many times already so I'm not surprised!
