Thank you very much for that.
Grandad would have been aged 50 in 1919. My aunt told me that he had a row with grannie and volunteered for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment but I don't know when. He apparently returned home from enlisting with a food parcel - but grannie refused to eat anything from it.
He was discharged on health grounds after being deployed re-interrring bodies in France after the War having been transferred to the Labour Corps .
One family story does not appear to stand up and that is that he once jumped into a trench that already contained a Turk at Gallipoli. Although armed with rifles, each climbed out of his own end. Perhaps it was another member of the family or just fantasy.
Thank you for the information. I was rather hoping that the regimental number would have indicated the date he enlisted. I wrote to the regiment about four years ago but did not receive a reply. Perhaps I should try again.
