HI All,

My name is Anita and Im living in Australia.

My ancestor Thomas Aston was Schoolmaster/Headmaster at
Rosehill Private Boarding School roughly between 1828 and 1858ish....

Is Rosehill School still in existence? Can anyone help with any history on Rosehill? Can anyone give me any further info on Thomas Aston?

Soho road runs down diagonally left to right in front of Rose Hill House. Villa Road runs off it to the right and St Michael's Road runs off to the left below Lawn House.

Re Rose Hill House, presumably that's where the name of Rose Hill Road where the King Edwards Girls Grammar School is comes from? It's in the same area.

looking at the photos we have mike the house seems to have been much closer to the pavement on soho road unless its my eyes

Presumably the name on the map is correct, but , on examination I see what you mean. The house in the photo is next to the road, so it would fit better if it was the building to the right of the marked one

I did not know of the connection, William Creighton an engineer, who built the observatory at his house.

I’m pretty sure you have that right. Looking at Marks map it’s quite sure.

Looking at the maps attached it appears that the original Rose Hill House was demolished when (or sometime before) Rose Hill Road was constructed. Could it be that the house shown in red adopted the name Rose Hill House?

i think that is possible john....it may help if we knew when the house with the observatory was demolished and even better if we could find a photo of the 2nd house...this is of course is if what happened

This is the house in red (post #19) with the curved drive. William Creighton died in 1831 so nothing I can find on 1841 census.

I thought the footprints of both houses in red I post #19 were the same. Different looking position as the house in blue had gone.
