Right birth

I am trying to find the birth of a mary Ann Jenkins in order to find her mothers maiden name. She married in 1867 at the age of 29 which would make her year of birth 1838ish. Her father was William Jenkins and census returns show her mother as Elizabeth. I sent for one certificate, Feb 1839, Aston (wrong one). I have a reference for another birth April qtr 1838, Birmingham, but don't wnt to send off for it unless I am sure it is the right one. Then I found this on familysearch. Wondered if anyone could help check this out?

I think the baptism you found is the correct one but certificates were not issued until September qt 1837.

1841 (Looks like Alcester Street)

William Jenkins born 1801 but not in Warks. a Porter
Elizabeth b 1811 Warks

John b. 1830
Lucinda b. 1832
Mary b.1837
Thomas b.1840

I hope you are getting your certificates from Birmingham Register Office , they have a resident genealogist to help you get the correct certificate. If you send them all the information ,if they don't find it they don't charge

Thank you for your help. Next step may be to send off for the birth certificate of one of her younger siblings born after 1837 in order to get her mothers maiden name.

Baptism records shows abode as Lombard Street.

If Mary Ann was born in on 19th July 1837, her birth is covered by the Civil Registration Act. This came into force on July 1st 1837, with the first quarterly returns being made at the end of September 1837 (covering July, August and September). However, registrations were patchy, and having checked FreeBMD, there doesn't appear to be a likley candidate.

Thomas was born 7th March 1840 and bapt 1st April 1840 at St Martins. Abode is given as Deritend. There are is a FreeBMD entry for West Bromwich for the March quater and one for Aston for June quarter (a birth in March may not be registered until the June quarter). Nothing for Birmingham though for either quarters

Hope that helps a little....
