I am researching the Reece family. My gt-grandfather was John Reece, born around 1834 in Assen? (or is it Aston) Warwickshire. This is on the 1861 census for Grantham, so it could be Assen is a mis-spelling.

His father was William Reece - Engineer (from marriage certificate of John Reece), but I do not know his mother's name.

John Reece went to Scotland around 1871.

His father William was dead by 1857 (again, from John Reece's marriage certificate). John Reece married Sarah Anne Butler in Grantham in 1857 and was an iron turner by trade.

Are any of these names familiar?

myra

Dear Shera,

Many thanks for your kind reply re John Reece. I did have the family of William and Phebe - but with a big question mark. This family does seem to be the only Reece that fits all the criteria for my John, so again, many thanks. They do seem to have moved around, and I know for certain that John went to Scotland - and thanks to him I was born there!

Good luck to you also with your research, and again many thanks for your kind info. - especially regarding the christening of John Reece and the death of William. It helps put the jigsaw together a bit more.

with kindest regards,
myra (mary) from sunny Tasmania
