Rebuilding Birmingham

There as been more desecration to Birminghams grand old buildings by the Council than by the Luftwaffe, and what have they replaced them with, in my opinion a load of old tat, cheap concrete (which does not weather very well just look at the last Library) and Glass and outlandish design. I am old enough to remember the pre 60's Bull Ring and its Market Hall and the old Snowhill station to quote 2 examples. They have taken the soul away from Birmingham and I find it so sad. I know some members will disagree with me but I feel better for my little rant. Eric
 
So there may be some truth in what a lot of people say we are the third city in the world then it there again if the yanks have got we will match it if you asked me
As we are slowly following them behind we have lost our inferstrutcher. We,have lost our grand building
And gone Yankee style high point glass building yak. Astonian,,,

eric as another brummie who cares very much about preservation rather than constant distruction( until we have no more) you will aways have my vote as well..i have said it many times and will continue to say that the buildings that are being slung up now will not be here in 100 years time (50 years in some cases) so where is the history in that..rant over now i feel better..

I still think there are lots of good old buildings in Brum. Looking forward to seeing the Grand Hotel when the scaffolding comes down. I do miss the old Snow Hill station , much better then the thing that is there now. See I don't always like new building lol

agreed froth there are still a lot of lovely old buildings around in the city centre but we need to hang onto them...also agree about snow hill station being missed and i am also looking forward to the grand hotel...of the newer built buildings i have always like those that are near to freeman st/park st by the fox and grapes (soon to go) simply because they remind me of the art deco syle which i love...
