Here I got to dance with Bob from Bob and Marcia and Edwin Starr and get judged in a dance competition by Tony Blackburn - I came 2nd. I used to get there early and go downstairs where Les Ross was the dj - as it was quiet, he used to come out onto the floor and we'd dance to his favourite Cold Sweat by James Brown. Loved this place. I also loved the Locarno on mondays, Top Rank tuesdays, Rainbow wednesdays and saturdays. I think the coolest club back then was the Heartbeat - easily the best ska was played there. Another cool place was The Ritz in Kings Heath which is where I saw Geno Washington. Brum was a great place to be a teenager back then.

I use to land in there with my best mate Colin Hunt [rip] in the late 60s early 70s probably coming from the Grapes Pub it was a great place to finish the night i always ended up dancing with Diane from Washwood Heath she was a nice girl she had a friend Evonne who was also nice they were natural girls then pleasant and smiled now they seem to have screwed up faces still thats the way it is now, good days .
