What about that great little Real Ale bar in the Midland Hotel? The beer was kept great and you could get a quality ham or cheese roll at lunch time. Bottom floor at the back. Long gone now though.

Er, sorry, this statment is mis-leading. Closed- i'm guessing 10, 15 years ago. Not that long ago. Miss it though. Would love one or five pints in there again.
I remember a pleasant guy behind the bar who had a beared. Also maybe the manageress. Was she Italian or Spanish lookin'?
Atkinson's Bar had Ruddles on draught and you could get a very nice game pie. The bar was like an Edwardian library and they also sold very nice game pie. I remember the guy with the beard and the spanish lady from the main lounge was called Aurora. I was a regular rom 1981 to 1985.
Just been reading Central Birmingham Pubs by McKenna (2006). He puts the closure as 'in the nineties' - prior to the Midland Hotel being refurbished into the Burlington. He also says that until 12/03/1970 it was a men-only bar 'reputedly the last remaining in central Birmingham'. He doesn't acknowledge the name Atkinson's by which some of us knew it. Was the name an echo of the old brewery?
