Does any one know if there are any records, of the Game Keepers at Warwick Castle?
As I have James Read born 1769, he was a Game Keeper, and when he died in 1850 he was living in Mill St, Warwick.
I would think he worked as a game keeper for Warwick Castle, as he is living very near the castle on 1841 census and on his death cert.
I would like to find out if he was at Warwick or not.

Large estates like Warwick will almost definitely have records, in their archives, regarding game-keepers ... probably even have the 'game books' of 'catches' for the castle kitchens; as well as lots of other details concerning the duties of the keepers.

Would I need to contact Warwick Castle, or would I have to visit Birmingham records office, to find the records?

Kay - I've really no idea; but I'd give Warwick a go first. Just phone-up their estates office and ask for some advice; or to be put-through the the archivist. Good hunting!
