RE: Looking for some assistance

I need some guidance. I am currently searching for information about my grandfather, Samuel Kala Khan, who passed away in 1967. He was laid to rest in Witton Cemetery. I can't locate his information on GRO or Birmigham City Council.
What should I do?
We have a letter that shows his grave is on a hill-side of Witton Cemetery to the north of Birmingham? Any guidance is appreciated.

Do you know what month he died in? If End of year it may be reg in 1968. How old was he when died? Did he have a non English spelling of Samuel?
Finally on GRO you cannot search 1967 (I think it still has to digitised along with other years) but you can ask GRO to search for you

Thank you for the answer. I have a letter thats dated June 12th, 1967 that tells me it was between Jan 1st - June 11th, 1967. Unfortunately, GRO has few years missing from their record and this happens to be under that period. He worked for Delta Metals, he is laid to rest at Witton Cemetary with clear directions. His name was Samuel Kala Khan. His name was an english name ( First name).
I dont know what to do. Are you from Birmingham? If yes, any idea who is handling Witton Cemetary, google shows its closed. I appreciate any guidance.

GRO Reference for a death cert is
Surname Samuel
First name Kala
Reg in Birmingham
Vol 9c
Page 565

There seems to have been confusion about the order of his names.

I used freebmd to get the above but you can enter those details to order a death cert

I appreciate you, thank you so much!

I apppreciate you all. I think I am getting close to my research. I wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with this site
I am looking for my grandfathers record of British Citizenship, is that where I will find? Please advise

Looks likely but I have no experience of that sort of search. It my be complicated by the 100 year rule (whereby some papers won't be disclosed for 100 years after issue).
Try asking using "freedom of information" form as they have to tell you if they have the papers even if the papers are closed.

Some years ago I was a volunteer with Citizens Advice Bureau. They had extensive advice on British Citizenship and may be able to help your search.
Yes, getting advice is an excellent idea. All I know is that you have to ask the precise question carefully, because that is the only one they will address. (If you use the Freedom of Information process.)

I have just tried working out what to use on the National Archives and got toally confused so I think help and advice is essential.

I'd just try typing the name into each of the search boxes one at a time and see if anything come up.

Just tried with a cousin's father in law in the search box under section 5.1 and got a result with an option to request a copy, cost £27.15.

A report of his application for naturalisation also appeared in the a local newspaper.

If you start from the National Archives home page, and click the search button in the top right corner, you get an option for two different types of search "Search our website" and "Search our records". If you select the "Search our records" option, you should be able to search for any name they might have in their indexed records.

My great-great grandfather's naturalization certificate shows up that way, though that was from 1875, and I expect you are looking for more recent records.

You can find the National Archives' own guide on searching for naturalization and citizenship records here:

Thank you, I appreciate you sharing and guiding. Do you mind if i post his name, see if you can try, maybe I am not doing it right?

His name: Kala(First), Samuel(Last)
Or He is in some records Samuel (First), Kala Khan. I appreciate you.

Thank you, I am trying.

I tried a few variations on the name, but I have found no results either. Samuel Kala Khan's death record gives his birth year as about 1926, so if he was a naturalized citizen, the naturalization would definitely have taken place less than 100 years ago, so the details won't be fully public, but I don't know if this would affect the search results. It is also possible that the information really isn't there - records do get lost sometimes.

So, I think the freedom of information request mentioned above is a good next step.

Just to check one point, the national archives records will list records for people who gained British citizenship through naturalization, or some similar process, after they were born. If that's the process your grandfather went through, then if you have a rough idea when the naturalization took place, that will help with any freedom of information request. If he was a British citizen from birth, the national archives won't necessarily have relevant records.

He came to the UK in 1955 ish and died in May 1967, must hv been between this time when he was naturalized.

I appreciate your past help. I managed to obtain a certified death certificate and a few additional details. I need one more assistance if someone can guide me. I noticed he has a listed spouse on his death certificate, and I'm trying to find when he got married. He lived in Birmingham all his life. I reached out to GRO; they can only try a two-year search. I'm trying to find his year of marriage. It must have been between 1955 and 1967 (year of death). His name in the UK system is Kala Samuel. Any help is appreciated.

It says M Samuel on the dc- please see the attached. Cant tell much, not sure how to look.
