looking for information on the railway tavern in saltley.just off bridge street,on or by pretoria road, over the bridge from the country girl pub, looking for details and a picture if possoble.
Are you sure of the location Max? Can't remember a Railway Tavern on or near Pretoria Road but there is one on Bordesley Green opposite the Adderley Park Train Station. It was the the Station Hotel I think. I'm sure someone on here will know more.
I think the nearest pub with a name even remotely the same as the Railway Tavern would be the Railway Inn on Great Francis St a mile or so away. There was a beer retailer listed at No 70 Bridge St in 1937.
It's possible this could have been the place as some of these beer retailers were pubs, but it's just as likely to be an outdoor.
I have found three pubs in the electoral rolls in the 30s called the railway tavern. These are:
148/150 Great Francis St
130/134 Kyrewick lane
192/194 Park Road.
None of these fit the area. Cannot find it in the directories of the years i looke deither, though many beerhouses were not named
