raf eastleigh photo

Donna, I was at RAF Eastleigh in 1948 it was the last station I went to on my tour of duty and I remember it was the best one I was at during my tour of 3yrs.

Have a nice day, Wally.

Wally, for a minute there i thought you might have known my grandad but he must of come back to england as my aunt born 1946 on boat on the way back. what was it like over there, would you be able to tell me about the polish women there and what they were doing there?

Donna, It was a beautiful place. We used to take a truck ride when off duty into the Rift Valley to see the wild animals and the Native tribes that lived there. There was a horse stables on the camp and me and a friend used to go horse riding around the surrounding hills dureing the afternoon. I will upload a couple of photos taken on the camp. One is of the Cookhouse and dineing room and the other is of me sitting outside my Billet. I don't know anything about Polish women, I don't recall seeing or hearing about them while I was there.

Have a nice day, Wally.

Wally, ive always wondered about how my grandad met my nan out there, seems i need to fo a bit more digging. ive attached another photo of grandad, i presume hes outside his bedroom

Donna, Found this picture on the Web,it said they were WRAF Polish Women stationed at Eastleigh. By the way it is now known as, Moi Air Base. the RAF doesn't own it anymore.

Have a nice day, Wally.

Donna, I was with 82(PR) Squadron RAF in East, West and central Africa from 1949 to 1551, we were doing an aerial survey of all the British colonies of the time, Iwas a wireless operator on a Lancaster Squadron. I spent some months at Eastleigh in 1950, I remember the Duke of Kent arriving to present Nairobi with its Royal Charter. I have attached an aerial picture of Eastleigh airport (one of our survey Photos at about 22,000ft) and one of our Aircraft at Eastleigh (one of them is now the Lancaster in the memorial flight). I was most surprised on my first visit into Nairobi to find a Woolworths. Their were quite a few WAAF's but I don't recollect any being polish. Eric

Hi Eric, thanks for the lovely pictures. I think my grandad used to be an engineer or something on the lancasters. I shall print those photos if you dont mind and put them on my family tree. Take care, Donna.
