To be honest I've been a fan of aunty beeb all my life and thought the license fee good value taking into account what the beeb offers in total, TV/radio/news/podcasts but this last couple of years its changed dramatically with its focus aimed at keeping the young/woke/snowflake/offended by everything mob happy at the cost of good unbiased content IMO. A warning before the Dad's Army film was shown saying some content may offend some people......beyond belief.

If I could now cancel my licence legally I would in the blink of an eye and never thought I'd think this way.

I remember when ITV went live, all of the huffing and puffing about commercial TV! In the US all radio & TV stations are independent except the public stations which are government funded, no license is required. A majority of these stations are partnering with British TV both BBC & ITV (or whatever it is called these days) and showing the British shows with a 1-year or season delay. BRITBOX is a big seller here with plenty of BBC content being purchased.
My parents did not always have the way with all to pay for that license and today with so much commercial content why is there a fee?

Internet radio should be free or minimal costs. It’s digital technology which minimizes infrastructure requirements and operating costs. Thats why the phone companies shifted to digital (in part) so quickly!

At least we're not stuck with just four TV stations these days. Britbox is pretty good, PlutoTV on the NowTV stick/phone/computer has some good content sometimes but you have to look for it https://www.pluto.tv/en/live-tv/deadly-women-gb and its free. The only beeb content I've watched today was Around the World in Eighty Days with David Tennant starring.
 
Remember the days, when abroad, searching for the best place for reception of the BBC World Service to check the football results ?

Was it 208 that had a long standing commercial with K - E - Y - N - S - H - A - M spelt out letter by letter? Can't remember what it was for though. Found out later where that was, (Bristol). Even been through there.

I had a little transistor radio for my 13th birthday and took on a school camping/climbing trip and it was like a kid today walking into school with a brand new iPhone lol. Up in Snowdonia Luxembourg and Voice of America would come booming through. Still love radio today, ham radio and listening in on 'short wave' and have a couple of radios to use for that.
